Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the latest date he has approved for the starting of the new general hospital to be built at Airdrie House, Airdrie, and what is the approximate completion date; what is the latest estimated cost of the project; and what are the nature of the medical services to be provided at the most recent convenient date.

Mr. Ross:

A start in April, 1971, has been authorised which the Western Regional Hospital Board hopes to achieve with completion about December, 1975.

The estimated cost of the project, including equipment, is £6.1 million. The board plans to provide accommodation for the following departments:

  • Medicine.
  • Surgery.
  • Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Gynaecology.
  • Dermatology.
  • Paediatrics.
  • Ear, Nose and Throat.
  • Accident and Short Stay.
  • Geriatric Assessment.
  • Infectious Diseases/Isolation.
  • Acute Psychiatry.

In addition, it is planned to provide a health centre on the site.
