Investment and Borrowing, and Interest, Profit and Dividend Returns

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether he will publish a table, showing separately for the years 1960 to 1969, respectively, inward and outward investment in Government and local authority stocks, public sector issue abroad and public sector borrowing, with the returns for each year, both inward and outward, for each of these items;

(2) whether he will publish a table showing separately for the years 1960 to 1969, respectively, the returns of interests, profits and dividends under the headings, portfolio, direct, and other returns, both inward and outward; and whether he will make a further distinction between returns on private account, on Government account, on local authority account and on nationalised industries account.

Much of the information has been published in the 1969 Pink Book (Tables 17, 20, 21 and 22) and in the March, 1970 issue of Economic Trends (Tables 1B, 6, 7 and 8 of the Appendix). I will consider whether this can be amplified in future issues of these publications.
