HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c562W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why, when sickness payment benefits were last raised, the daily rate was not made directly convertible to decimal currency.

Mr. Ennals:

Daily rates of sickness benefit have to be one-sixth of the weekly rate, and directly convertible daily rates could have been achieved only at the price of incurring greater inconvenience with weekly rates.
