Mr. Onslow

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average cost per employee in the service industries in October, 1964, taking wages, National Insurance contributions and taxes into account; and what it is now.

The following table gives the most recent comparison for those service industries for which the information is available. It is compiled on the basis that S.E.T. enters into labour costs in miscellaneous services and public administration, but not in transport and communications.
