HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c581W
Mr. Judd

asked the Minister of Transport what was the total value of road building expenditure in Portsmouth during each of the past eight financial years; and what is the estimated total in the current financial year.

Mr. Bob Brown:

The total road-building expenditure by central and local government in Portsmouth for the seven financial years 1962–63 to 1968–69 was:

£
1962–63 32,000
1963–64 342,000
1964–65 163,000
1965–66 88,000
1966–67 202,000
1967–68 525,000
1968–69 1,877,000

The above figures include expenditure during 1968–69 on the Farlington and Cosham Bypass, only part of which is within the city. Figures of actual expenditure in financial year 1969–70 are not yet available but the estimated cost of schemes approved in that year was £851,743.

The estimated cost of schemes firmly programmed which are likely to come forward for financial approval in the financial year 1970–71 is approximately £4,800,000.
