HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 cc490-1W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Prime Minister whether he has received the Report of the Committee to review the arrangements for The Queen's Award to Industry; and whether the scheme is to be modified.

The Prime Minister:

The committee's report will be published tomorrow, and copies will be available in the Vote Office.

The committee has found that the scheme has proved successful and recommends that it should continue. It makes a number of recommendations for improvement in the arrangements, of which the most important is that exporters of services will now be eligible for the award on similar terms and conditions as applied to manufacturers. The committee's recommendations are accepted by the Government in full. They will be implemented in the arrangements for the 1971 awards.

I would like to thank Lord McFadzean and the members of his committee for the thorough and practical way in which they have dealt with this complex subject.
