asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the effects of CS gas used by British troops in Northern Ireland on 10th May, 1970 on women and children, and on some men with chest complaints.

Mr. Richard:

I am not aware that the use of CS on 10th May caused any ill-effects on women and children or on men with chest complaints.
