HC Deb 27 May 1970 vol 801 c475W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether, in view of the comparative costs of Polaris and Fleet nuclear submarines, he will carry out a cost effectiveness study of Great Britain's planned construction of such vessels during the next five years.

Mr. John Morris:

The cost effectiveness of all planned naval new construction is carefully considered before orders are placed. But it is not possible to make any significant comparison between the costs of Polaris and Fleet nuclear submarines because the two types of vessel are radically different in their construction, design and function.
