HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 c445W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many housing authorities in Wales have appointed improvement officers under the Housing Act, 1969; and what steps he has taken to encourage such appointments.

Mr. George Thomas:

Housing authorities are not required under the Act to appoint improvement officers, nor to notify me if they do so. My Department does, however, take every opportunity of stressing to local authorities the desirability of nominating or appointing an officer with the specific duty of encouraging improvements. Three authorities are known to have done so and one has advertised the post.
