HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 c407W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a complete list of the persons and officials who are, additionally to Members of Parliament, permitted to use the facilities provided in the Members' Library, the Members' Dining Room, Strangers' Dining Rooms, Members' Tea Room, Members' Cafetria, Strangers' Bar, Annie's Bar, and the Members' Smoke Room.

Mr. Peart:

Officers of the House are entitled to use the Library and all its services. By courtesy, access and limited use of its resources are allowed to Peers and Officers of the House of Lords, Commonwealth Clerks and Librarians on attachment, and, in the mornings only, bearers of cards issued by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The rules relating to the use of Refreshment facilities are contained in the Refreshment Department booklet, a copy of which I am sending to my hon. Friend.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he is aware that the Smoke Room is the only place which is reserved at all times for the sole use of Members; and whether he will arrange the accommodation so that a room of more than some 800 square feet is reserved for the sole use of Members of Parliament.

Mr. Peart:

In addition to the Smoking Room, the Members' Lounge, off the Commons private corridor, and the Chess Room are also reserved at all times for the sole use of Members. The total area of these two rooms is about the same as that of the Members' Smoking Room. There are also three rooms reserved for the sole use of Lady Members.
