HC Deb 15 May 1970 vol 801 cc411-2W
Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works on how many occasions the Forbes Committee has so far met; when the last meeting took place; for what date the next meeting is fixed; and whether he will make a statement on the progress of the Committee's work.

Mr. John Silkin:

The inquiry has met twice. The last meeting was on 19th September, 1969. No date has been fixed for the next meeting, but it is expected to be held shortly. The inquiry has been concerned so far with assembling evidence. After the first meeting of the inquiry, a questionnaire was sent to a wide selection of bodies concerned with the industry to sample views on registration. A second series of inquiries was sent out after the inquiry's second meeting. These concentrated particularly on obtaining the views of major building clients—principally industrial organisations, hospital boards, and local authorities—on the possible benefits of registration. The inquiry is to meet shortly to consider the replies.
