Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence in which counties and which county boroughs have arms security checks taken place between 1st May and 10th May.

Mr. Hattersley:

Armagh, Belfast, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many arms security checks have been made in Great Britain in each of the last four weeks.

Mr. Hattersley:

None.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many troops of the Regular Army and how many members of the Ulster Defence Regiment were deployed in arms security checks in Northern Ireland on 8th May.

Mr. Hattersley:

It would not be in the public interest to disclose the disposition of troops on particular dates, but during the period 1st to 10th May some 1,100 regular soldiers and some 220 members of the Ulster Defence Regiment were engaged on arms security checks in Northern Ireland.
