asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) on what date he expects the new Pay As You Earn code books to be available;

(2) in which week the changes in personal taxation proposed in the Budget will first affect take-home pay.

Mr. Taverne:

New P.A.Y.E. tax tables taking account of the Budget changes will be distributed to employers in time for them to be brought into use on the first pay day after 5th July.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the average income after tax of a married man without children or other dependants with income wholly earned of £14 a week in 1969–70; what it will be in 1970–71; and what it will be in the first week in which he receives the benefit of the changes proposed in the Budget.
