Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the average amount of tax financial support from central Government funds for new buses, fuel for buses and others towards public and private road transport in Wales and, separately, for Breconshire and Radnorshire.

Mr. Bob Brown:

Following is the information requested, for the period from the start of the schemes to 31st March, 1970.

The figure for 1968–69—the latest available—is £42 per dwelling. I have no statement to make.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total estimated amount of tax relief available to a house purchaser each year for the purchase of a house costing £5,000, by means of a mortgage and assuming current mortgage and tax rates.

Mr. Taverne:

The amount will vary according to the circumstances, including the make-up and amount of the purchaser's income and the size and terms of the mortgage.
