HC Deb 14 May 1970 vol 801 cc346-7W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Attorney-General when he will extend the Legal Aid Advisory Liaison Service to parts of the country other than London in accordance with the recommendations of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee.

The Attorney-General:

The appointment of the additional 11 Legal Advice Liaison Officers recommended by the Advisory Committee will be considered in conjunction with the introduction of the new scheme for Legal Advice and Assistance recommended by that committee.

Mr. Oakes

asked the Attorney General if he will make a statement of the progress of the Legal Aid Advisory Liaison Service in the London area.

The Attorney-General:

The Legal Advice Liaison Officer has been engaged in studying the needs for a liaison service both in London and in the provinces. He will shortly establish a liaison service in an area of need in London.

Mr. Oakes

asked the Attorney-General if he intends to introduce legislation to bring into force the recommendations of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Legal Aid during the present Session of Parliament.

The Attorney-General:

To the extent that the recommendations require legislation, the Parliamentary programme does not permit the introduction of such legislation during the present Session.
