HC Deb 14 May 1970 vol 801 c338W
61. Mrs. Lena Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider taking steps to vary family allowances in accordance with the age of children, and to increase family allowances for children who are disabled.

Mr. Ennals:

I would not rule out from consideration the grading of family allowances according to the age of the children, but I think it is unlikely that this would prove to be the best way to use any further resources that may become available to assist families. As for giving additional help for disabled children, the new attendance allowance proposed in the National Superannuation and Social Insurance Bill seems to me to be a better approach.
