HC Deb 14 May 1970 vol 801 c315W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that in the London Borough of Newham steps have been taken to commence the rationalisation of courts by employing civilians as court ushers in place of uniformed police; and whether he will take whatever steps may prove necessary to make this a general rule throughout all courts in Great Britain.

Mr. Elystan Morgan:

My right hon. Friend is issuing a further circular reminding magistrates courts committees to avoid as far as possible employing police officers on court duties.
