HC Deb 13 May 1970 vol 801 c302W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what reply he has sent to representations by the Schools Council Committee for Wales about provision of nursery education in Wales.

Miss Lestor:

The Schools Council Committee for Wales has not made representations to me on nursery education. It has, however, recently published a book " Aspects of Primary Education: The Challenge of Gittins " which includes comment on developments recommended in the Gittins Report, including nursery education. Projects to provide about 300 additional nursery places in Wales at a cost of £ 83,475 have so far been included in the Urban Programme and local authorities will be asked shortly to submit further proposals under the next phase of that programme. On the question of a general expansion of nursery education, I would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer I gave on 9th April to my hon. Friend the Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Renee Short).
