§ 57. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Secretary of State for Defence when he first informed Cammell Lairds of the possibility of a decision to place no further contracts for nuclear propelled warships with them; and what account he took of the unbalancing of the work of the yard, and the effect on employment there.
§ 59. Mr. Brooksasked the Secretary of State for Defence when he informed Cammell Laird and Vickers, respectively, of his decision to concentrate all building of Fleet nuclear submarines at the latter yard.
§ Mr. John Morris:The decision was notified to Cammell Lairds in February, 1968, some three years before the last contract was due to be completed. They were also assured that they would continue to be invited to tender for other naval orders within their capability. As indicated in my reply of the 11th March, 1969, to my hon. Friend the Member for 287W Bebington (Mr. Brooks) the decision was not communicated formally to Vickers.— [Vol. 779, c. 261.]
