HC Deb 12 May 1970 vol 801 c264W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the insurance regulations governing the employment of long distance lorry drivers.

Mr. Harold Walker:

I have been asked to reply.

There are none, apart from the compulsory motor insurance requirements of the Road Traffic Act, 1960, and the provisions of National Insurance legislation. However, the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act, 1969, requires that, subject to the provisions of the Act, every employer carrying on any business in Great Britain shall insure and maintain insurance against liability for bodily injury or disease sustained by his employees in the course of their employment in Great Britain. The Act will be brought into operation in due course when the necessary regulations have been prepared and laid before the House.
