HC Deb 12 May 1970 vol 801 c267W
Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the maximum cost of a denture prescribed under the National Health Service for a patient; and what liaison with the Dental Estimates Board takes place when the cost of a denture may be regarded as excessive.

Mr. Ross:

The maximum fee prescribed in regulations for a single denture varies from £7 5s. to £16 according to the material used and the number of teeth; additional fees up to £5 are payable where the teeth are backed or for lingual and palatal bars. In general, the provision of dentures, except initial provision in vulcanite or synthetic resin, requires the prior approval of the Scottish Dental Estimates Board, and in special cases not covered by the scale of fees laid down in the regulations such fee is payable as the board may approve.
