HC Deb 12 May 1970 vol 801 c264W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware of the inadequacy of aerosol fire extinguishers to put out fires in the home; if he will take steps to make it compulsory to label these extinguishers with their limited capacity as fire extinguishers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

Before any Government action could usefully or justifiably be taken in relation to small fire extinguishers it is necessary to establish acceptable criteria against which they could be tested. Discussions with this end in view are in progress with the British Standards Institution.
