HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 cc205-6W
26. Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether in view of the fact that deferred retirement pensioners who finally retired at 70 years of age before the arrangements of 30th October 1967 will be 12s. a week worse off by 1972 than identically situated pensioners who retired with the advantage of these arrangements, he will increase the increments payable to those in the former category to achieve parity.

Mr. O'Malley:

Additions for deferred retirement provide some return for the amount of pension forgone and contributions paid during the period of deferment and these amounts can differ as benefit and contribution rates change. It follows that there is no justification for caculat- ing additions earned at materially different times on a common basis. But under the new scheme we are proposing to increase the value of any additions in payment in the regular biennial upratings of pension.
