HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 cc209-10W
55. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pensioners were in receipt of supplementary benefits in Bristol; what percentage of the whole this figure represented; and what were the like figures in the Bristol, North-West constituency.

Mr. O'Malley:

In February 1970 about 21,000 retirement pensioners—excluding the wives of male recipients—were receiving a supplementary pension from the five local offices in Bristol which however cover some areas outside Bristol. Three of these local offices deal with such claimants in the Bristol, North-West constituency, and it is estimated that there are about 7,000 of them in that con- stituency. National insurance pension records are centralised, and, therefore, the number of pensioners by area is not available.
