HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 cc211-2W
64. Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give details of any changes which would affect the National Health Service on Great Britain entering the Common Market; and what is his estimate of the effect upon the standards of medical service to the patient in United Kingdom hospitals, and in their own homes, and of the effect on the level of the National Health Service contributions.

Mr. Crossman:

The only direct effect that can be foreseen is the extension to this country of the proposed provision that members of the healing professions should have greater freedom to practise in any part of the Community area. I see no reason why National Health Service standards or contributions should be affected.
