asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of deaths resulting from fires caused by oil heaters in each of the years 1967, 1968 and 1969.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

According to the Registrar General's figures, 44 deaths were caused by oil heater fires in England and Wales in 1967 and 37 in 1968. The figure for 1969 is not yet available.
