HC Deb 07 May 1970 vol 801 c170W
65. Mr. Waddington

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give an estimate of the number of constituencies in which at the next General Election the votes will have to be counted on the morning after polling day as a result of the poll being open until 10 p.m.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

It is not possible to make a reliable estimate, since the arrangements in the constituencies will depend on local circumstances at the time which it is for returning officers to assess.
