HC Deb 06 May 1970 vol 801 cc138-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many former mineworkers in the Cumnock, Girvan, and Ayr employment exchange areas have taken advantage of the facilities offered at the Government Training Centre, Irvine, and development area training grant schemes, respectively.

Mr. Dell:

Since September, 1967, 27 have been accepted for training at the Irvine Government Training Centre. Of these 21 have started and 15 completed their courses. 11 applicants are still under consideration.

Under the Development Area Training Grants Scheme 34 firms in these areas have received grants and 545 men have been trained; it is not known how many of these were ex-miners.
