HC Deb 06 May 1970 vol 801 cc137-8W
Mr. Sheldon

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity if she will publish a table showing the numbers of people in training in industries covered by the industrial training boards for each of the years 1965 to 1969 in development areas and non-development areas.

Mr. Dell:

Separate information about numbers in training in industries covered by industrial training boards, whether in development areas or elsewhere, is not available. My Department's new earnings survey, however, indicated that in September, 1968 nearly 1,400,000 persons were receiving training in all industries and services, including over 500,000 apprentices. As this is a new survey, corresponding figures are not available for earlier years, but the number of employees receiving training in manufacturing industries increased by about 15 per cent. between 1964 and 1968.
