HC Deb 06 May 1970 vol 801 c129W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present average salary received by a general medical practitioner within the National Health Service; and what was the comparable figure in 1964.

Mr. Ross:

It is estimated that the gross remuneration of general medical practitioners from executive councils in Great Britain averaged about £6,300 in 1969–70. Information about practice expenses in 1969– 70 is not available but such estimates as can be made by projection from earlier years suggest that the average income net of such expenses may be of the order of £4,000. The corresponding figures for 1963–64 were £4,265 and £2,765.
