HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 c94W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Minister of Transport (1) how many accidents have occurred in Victoria Road, Bolton, at the junction with Chorley New Road during the last 12 months; how many of these involved lorries; and how many such lorries were engaged in construction work on the new motorway;

(2) if he will make a statement as to the causes of accidents at the junction of Victoria Road and Chorley New Road, Bolton, in which vehicles owned by his sub-contractors on the new motorway are involved.

Mr. Bob Brown:

Between 30th March, 1969 and 30th March, 1970 there were two serious and five slight injury accidents at this junction. Two of the slight accidents involved lorries, these being in each case engaged on motorway constrution.

I am informed that in one of these cases the lorry driver was found guilty of driving with inefficient brakes. In the other case the driver of a van involved was found builty of driving without due care and attention and, being an L-driver, of not being accompanied by a qualified driver.
