HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 c94W
Mr. Oakes

asked the Minister of Transport whether vehicles engaged by subcontractors to his Department on the M62 motorway at or near Bolton are regularly tested by his inspectors.

Mr. Mulley:

The majority of vehicles using the roads are subject to annual inspection, either by Ministry vehicle examiners or by persons authorised by the Minister. In addition, roadside spot checks of vehicles are carried out by Ministry examiners, and a series of these was held in the Bolton area at the end of 1969. Vehicles examined included those used on the M62 motorway contract. Certain site vehicles not normally using the roads, together with those vehicles classed as engineering plant, are not subject to inspection and test.
