§ Mr. Michael Heseltineasked the Minister of Transport what help his Department is giving to the establishment of road safety centres; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. Bob Brown:The White Paper Cmnd. 3339 and the Ministry of Transport's circular, Roads 14/69, urged local authorities to increase their road safety activities and to provide suitable training grounds. Some councils have established road safety centres, and we hope that their example will be copied by others. My Department and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents give, and will continue to give, advice, encouragement and training to assist local authorities in this essential public service. The cost to local authorities is aided through rate support grant. R.O.S.P.A.'s costs are also substantially met by the Government.
