HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 c93W
Mr. John Lee

asked the Minister of Transport if he will provide guidance to local authorities, with a view to securing the standardisation of side street parking regulations.

Mr. Bob Brown:

No. Local circumstances and needs vary so much that it would be wrong, and also very difficult, to lay down standards.

The principle the Government have adopted and expressed in the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1967, as amended by the Transport Act, 1968, is that, with very few exceptions, decisions on parking and waiting controls on local roads should be a matter for local authorities themselves.
