HC Deb 05 May 1970 vol 801 c84W
Mr. Brewis

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what study he has made of the use of trees planted in shelter belts as a means of noise reduction.

Mr. Denis Howell:

Studies in the United Kingdom and overseas show that only wide belts of trees appreciably reduce traffic noise levels as measured; but when the source of noise is concealed, people appear to find it less of a nuisance.
