asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning what representations have been made to his Department on the need for a Local Government Ombudsman.

Mr. Crosland:

The Government have already taken the initiative in proposing an ombudsman system for local government, and consultations with the local authority associations have begun on the basis of the proposals outlined in the White Paper on Local Government Reform.
