§ 42. Mr. Peter Archerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will take steps to encourage local authorities to build houses for owner-occupation by families moving from redevelopment and slum clearance areas.
§ Mr. Freeson:We are pressing local authorities to proceed with urban renewal and slum clearance and are now examining the returns to a recent circular inquiry. How to meet the needs and demand for owner-occupation in renewal areas is a complex question which we are examining in the Department, but in exceptional circumstances local authorities may submit proposals to build for owner-occupation in such areas.
