Mr. Hobden

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) what amount of public money has been given annually to Brighton for the purposes of mortgage finance for the years 1959 to date;

(2) what was the amount of money given in each year since 1958 to Brighton Corporation for the purposes of house purchase, and the number of mortgages provided.

The table sets out the amounts which have been lent by the Brighton County Borough Council for house purchase since 1962–63 and the number of mortgages which have been given since 1967–68. I regret that the information about numbers of mortgages for earlier years is not readily available:
