73. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on the new oil strike in the North Sea off Aberdeen; and what steps he is taking to protect British interests and, particularly, British oil consumers.

Mr. Alan Williams:

The oil strike recently announced by the Phillips Group is 200 miles east-south-east of Aberdeen in the Norwegian sector of the continental shelf. British interest are not involved in this discovery and I cannot therefore add to the statement put out by the company.
