HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 cc13-4W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the situation in the Cayman Islands.

Mr. Foley:

During last week the Administrator of the Cayman Islands reported that there had been demonstrations against certain regulations made under the Land Development (Interim) Control Law. It was accordingly decided, as a precautionary measure, to arrange for H.M.S. " Sirius " to sail to Grand Cay- man, where she arrived on 27th April. The situation has since been quiet. The Legislative Assembly met on 1st May to consider the Land Development (Interim) Control Law and one other law which has been in dispute.
