asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what sum has been allocated by the University Grants Committee for building projects in the Northern Region to start in 1970–71.

Mr. Fowler

The University Grants Committee have allocated £897,000 for building projects to start in 1970–71 at the universities of Durham and Newcastle, compared with £572,000 in 1969–70.
