HC Deb 26 March 1970 vol 798 c472W
Mr. Henig

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has to ensure the continuance of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Miss Jennie Lee

I understand that the Arts Council hope to increase slightly the grant of £90,000 which they had originally allocated to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for 1970–71. Steps are being taken to establish a Midland Authorities Orchestral Association which would extend the area of support given to the Orchestra by local authorities.
