HC Deb 26 March 1970 vol 798 c529W
Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on youth exchanges between Great Britain and Germany, indicating the financial contribution of each Government.

Mr. Foley

The present contribution to these exchanges from British central Government funds is £30,000 a year, administered by the British Council. The annual allocation from Federal German Government resources is, I understand, DM300,000.

Financial support is also provided for such exchanges by British local authorities and local education authorities from funds at their disposal part of which derive from central Government grants: no statistics about the amounts so spent are available. It is understood that the Federal German Government provide a further DM1,200,000 for distribution through the Laender, and that the Laender and local authorities also contribute.
