HC Deb 26 March 1970 vol 798 c554W
Mr. Booth

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement about the new Air Service Agreement between the United Kingdom and Jamaica.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

This is the first formal air services agreement between our two countries since Jamaica's independence. It was negotiated earlier in the year and signed in Kingston by the Prime Minister of Jamaica and the United Kingdom High Commissioner on 25th March. It makes wide permanent provision both for air services on trunk routes between the two countries and for regional services in the Caribbean and linking the Bahamas.

The agreement will be published in due course.

I warmly welcome the agreement, and look forward to the healthy and friendly development of aviation relations between Jamaica and the United Kingdom, which was the spirit in which the Jamaican side, led by Sir Neville Ashenheim, Jamaican Minister without Portfolio, took part in the negotiations.
