Mr. Arthur Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many primary classes in Accrington had more than 40 pupils in January 1969; what percentage that was of the total; and what are the latest available figures.

In January, 1969, 17 classes in maintained primary schools in the Accrington Divisional Executive Area had more than 40 pupils; this was 9.1 per cent. of the total. By January 1970 the number of such classes had been reduced to 10, 5.2 per cent. of the total.
