HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 c421W
60. Sir H. Harrison

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what consultations he has had in the last two years with the Dutch Government or their leading engineers on the subject of coast preservation.

Mr. Mackie

Sea defence works are initially the responsibility of river authorities and grant-aided projects are examined technically by our engineers. We are advised on research needs by a committee of experts. In addition the Hydraulics Research Station for which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Technology is responsible, provides an advisory service to authorities and consulting engineers. A fruitful exchange of visits and ideas is maintained through all these channels with the Dutch counterparts.
