HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 cc449-50W
Mr. Brian Parkyn

asked the Secretary of State for Local Government and Regional Planning how he intends to carry out the undertaking in the recent White Paper that there will be consultation on the boundaries of the new local government areas.

Mr. Crosland

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government sent a circular to local authorities yesterday asking them to let him have, by the end of July, their comments on the pattern and boundaries of the areas proposed in the White Paper. He is also extending an open invitation to all persons and organisations interested in the reform of local government to send him their views on the new boundaries. We hope that they will take full advantage of this opportunity. Arrangements will also be made later for conferences with the local authorities in each part of the country. The procedure to be followed at these conferences is the subject of discussion with the local authority associations.
