HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 c324W
51. Mr. Howarth

asked the Minister of Transport what representations he has received from the Lancashire Police Authority about new proposals for controlling traffic on motorways in fog and other adverse weather conditions by the imposition of a mandatory varying speed limit; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bob Brown

Setting mandatory speed limits by such signs would present obvious difficulties of enforcement and might reduce flexibility of operation. We are however considering the representations in conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
