asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will state the number of indictable offences known to the police which involved the use of one or more firearms in the three years ended 1967, with comparable figures for the three years ended 1968 and for the three years ended 1969;

(2) if he will publish the number of indictable offences known to the police which have involved the use of one or more firearms in the 12 months to the latest convenient date, with comparable figures for each of the last five years.

The revised figures for indictable offences known to the police in England and Wales in which a firearm was fired or presented were: 792 in 1967 and 878 in 1968. Figures for earlier years are not available. I will write to the hon. Member when I have the figure for 1969.
