HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 cc250-1W
54. Sir G. Nabarro

asked the Minister of Technology what were the fire losses in the United Kingdom in 1969; what steps are being taken to secure reduction in such losses; and what conversations he has had with a view to seeking to introduce through insurance offices a substantial no-claim bonus as an incentive to greater fire precaution awareness and protection.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies

Estimates by the British Insurance Association put direct fire losses in 1969 at £120 million. The Ministry and the fire insurance companies jointly support the Fire Research Station, which conducts research into all aspects of the prevention and extinction of fire, but the question of a no-claim bonus is a matter solely for the insurance companies.
